Rewi House
North Shore, Auckland

An expanding family with a desire to remain in their existing location compelled this modest addition to an existing cottage.

In order to preserve the charm of the existing cottage it has been left relatively untouched with the additional spaces, a garage and two bedrooms, contained in a separate strikingly contrasting structure.

The marriage of new and old is solidified via a black metal-clad ‘tardis’ providing access and enclosing the stairs.

Natural timber cladding and dark joinery ensure the addition stands harmoniously amid the surrounding native trees.
